Tungsten Brand Marketing Names Coghead

New web 2.0 company emerges and takes aim at the giants of the software industry.

Brevard, NC (PRWEB) September 19, 2006 -- When serial silicon valley entrepreneur Paul McNamara went looking for a name for his new company, he wanted a certain brashness to it. From his former work at Red Hat, he knew the power that a sense of mission and purpose could generate within an organization. With this new web-based application company, McNamara was looking to capture that same sense of excitement and empowerment. For answers he turned to Tungsten Brand Marketing, the same people that created PODS® and numerous other national brand names. After a thorough review of the company’s goals and direction, a few weeks of name generation, and more than one brainstorming session, the winner was Coghead -- a new web 2.0 programming application with the potential to revolutionize the way people use the internet.

"First and foremost, a ‘head’ is someone who is passionate about something -- think of a ‘Dead-head’ or a ‘Mac-head’," McNamara explains. "The word ‘cog’ has two meanings. First, applications that are created using our platform can all work together -- like cogs. This is a real distinguishing feature of our platform. Today, business applications don’t integrate well with one another. If you want to integrate data from Oracle with data from Peoplesoft, it’s a real chore. With our platform, it’s simple to get Coghead apps to work together."

Creating web-based apps with click and drag ease -- ones that can easily integrate with other applications, wasn’t the only reason McNamara like the metaphor of a cog.

"A lot of people these days feel like they are being forced to work the way their software vendors dictate. Packaged software imposes a process on its users. As a result, a certain ‘sameness’ has taken over at companies. Process innovation has ceased as people are forced to do their work the way their software vendors prescribe. So people are feeling a bit like cogs at work, forced to operate in a fixed way. We thought it would be kind of fun to take the pejorative meaning of a word and turn it on its head by investing Coghead with qualities that are the antithesis of a cog. Being a Coghead is an opportunity to discard your limitations and get back your freedom to innovate."

With Coghead now in beta testing, the final product is scheduled to go live mid October. With the launch of Coghead, and other "do-it-yourself" web based applications, many experts foresee a change in the way people work. No longer tethered to a company server, individuals can work collaboratively from remote points, or as McNamara likes to refer to the nomadic new lifestyle, "Going Bedouin." "I believe we’re going to see a shift in not only how people work, but also when and where they work." And that’s fine with McNamara, as long as they are "Cogheads."
